In 2014 a United States (US) team of 11, consisting of 1 retired doctor, 5 nurses, 4 support staff, and 1 veterinarian embarked on a medical mission trip to Fantalle, Ethiopia for the purpose of assisting the Gudina Tumsa Foundation (GTF) with a medical outreach. The team soon discovered that GTF was involved in various outreach ministries to several impoverished communities throughout Ethiopia. The love and compassion that GTF had for the people of Ethiopia was extraordinary. Their desire to invest in communities by building schools, digging boreholes, teaching employment and life skills, and providing basic health care demonstrated the love and compassion of Jesus Christ. This created an instantaneous bond between the US team and GTF staff. As a result, members of the US team grew passionate about assisting GTF with all of their various outreach ministries, and created GTF-US to provide a way for others to join them and "share the vision” of this incredible organization.
The Lord has anointed us to preach good tidings unto the meek; to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that He might be glorified.
-Isaiah 61: 1-3
