Ethiopian women are not fully entitled to property rights. The husbands can sell or exchange property without consulting their wives, even though the wives take the lion’s share of household responsibilities.
Since 1995, GTF has implemented a number of projects intended on empowering women economically, socially and psychologically. The organization devised various economic empowerment projects for women. This includes the formation of over 75 women's saving and credit groups. The saving and credit groups consist of up to 25 women and the women can borrow from their group to engage in various business activities. As income generating activities GTF also involved the women in petty shops, grinding mills, steer and goat fattening, poultry production, and various other activities.
